[DISCUSSION] Feedback on the Alpha Jam

Hey all!!

I’ve been hearing concerns about the ongoing Alpha Jam and would love to collect people’s feedback, suggestions, and concerns so we can make this event fun for everyone! Feel free to mention anything about this game jam and what we can do in future as well :D

Its decent besides the fact that there was a few major bugs that stopped the scale of games being built (softlock at certain part counts), and the lack of features not allowing a lot of creative things to do, like scripting and UI.

I feel as though the jam should be delayed until we have more of the scripting features in place because currently some of us whom were expecting scripting (as announced originally) didnt get it and have to potentially leave the jam and leave everything we have done so far as just fodder to never use again.

And if ur gonna delay dont js decide “lets delay 1 week” or something. Instead make some sort of list of features people would want and then give us those features and THEN delay if u can. Otherwise the delay serves no purpose.

Please consider!

Pls add deselecting parts in the viewport

Would be good if date is extended a bit and mac support could be launched before alpha jam ends

MacOS developers are STILL unable to make games on Luduvo. I think this is an outrageous disadvantage

Me and the Team are taking part in this Game Jam purely to be build base and we are having a really good time!
We been spending last few weeks working as hard as we can on this Project, no issues from us.

Now I seen people talk about potential delay due to scripting not fully supported and
while I personally dont agree for a delay, there should be atleast some scripting support during this Game Jam.. so.

1 - Since our Project would be done around 22nd - 23rd and if a delay happens, this would cause us to completely redesign or remake our Game, while we do have a programmer on our Team and it is possible to bring out a high quality unfinished game, it would be rather disappointing for us personally as we would have to spend more time on Project then we originally planned.

2 - The Genre is specifically unfinished which means we did not expect Scripting Support to begin with and go with the old classic builds, if (in my personal opinion) people want to make a high quality product of a game jam, we should host a different game jam for full scripting support. I think the easiest solution to this problem is simply host another Game Jam later on for Alpha Testers again or after the Release.

Yes this may sound like im being pretty moody/irritated over nothing burger but me and the team purely joined because we thought this would be a purely a build Game Jam with very small scripting support and would be a great opportunity to show what we are capable of without needing to script, but that is all I got on my thoughts.

Overall this Game Jam is really fun but Im not gonna be a fan of the Delay if it happens, ik ik if people heavily rely on scripting to make their games I fully understand but yaknow, just kinda sucks for us tbh.

So far I love the studio. A few things tho: A bit more customisation with the camera would be great, like pan speed, sensitivity (I think one of those are already an option)
Also pressing E and Q move you along the Y axis, while in engines for similar UGC platforms it moves you through the Y axis relative to your camera rotation. This is more of a preference thing but I just don’t like how it is at the moment.
And a scripting documentation, even a basic one, is very much needed. I’m aware scripting is very new, so it’s understandable there isn’t any sort of documentation yet.

My honest opinion is that the jam should’ve either included scripting, while releasing the docs for it, or not included scripting at all.
But apart from not being able to upload a world, I’m having a blast building and testing out studio.

I personally don’t care about a delay, but would find it reasonable because some people only have a few hours a week to work on their project, and due certain bugs it could’ve scrapped those hours if timing was unlucky.

i hope we could delay it for just 5 days in order to get scripting before the jam ends, this feels like we are just doing build battles instead of proper games.

This sounds awesome! :D
Unfortunately, I’m no game developer so I don’t know if I can take part, but I can help produce soundtracks or maybe sfx if possible (I usually make game soundtracks, but I can try and make sfx if I wanted to learn how!)

Very difficult due to the large amount of engine constraints. Virtually all of my teammates have left Luduvo Studio (one is building with R*blox, another idk.)

If ya want my opinion, I think that either scripting shouldve been put on hold until there is proper documentation, or that the game jam should’ve been delayed until it did. I am not a super experienced scripter, and i honestly don’t have a hope of competing with any of the teams that have the technical know how to brute force out the commands.

That said, if ya ignore the above, its been going pretty well so far, and everything is as expected, besides the D3D12 graphics crashes, but that can be worked around pretty easily. Personally i don’t know if ill have anything worth presenting when the time comes, as my intended build requires quite a bit more from scripting than we have available at the moment, but its been fun so far, and has stirred up an idea or two for when luduvo does eventually go public.

Personally me and team only joined the game jam because it was a great opportunity for us to make a unfinished game without scripting to show what were capable of as builders.

I would honestly be incredibly mad if they delay the game jam just to add script support. It would ruin the progress we made and have to remake alot of the segments of our game we spent many hours for over a week.

Remember this is a unfinished theme, you don’t need to script to make a unfinished game. Isaac has already expressed that this is more so a build showcase rather then actual build.

If they want script to be added during this game jam. They should of 100% delayed game jam to support it. I just personally think this is a harsh punishing decision to those who already put a ton of effort in doing purely only building.

Either put a no script rule or wait to add it.

Personal id go with No script as so many developers have made these great builds and then js for yall to come out and delay it so the other can use scripting

The timing for a game jam isn’t really perfect, especially when you consider that the platform is still in alpha.

yea thats why its called an alpha jam

Alpha jam or game jam no difference

Best Decisions is to host another Game Jam if you want to make a highly effective working game.
You do not need scripting in my opinion to fit within the unfinished genre.

The Alpha Jam Delay is just going to be painful for hardworking builders who want to
push their imagination and effort with the limitation we got. The Delay will just make more issues then problem solves, just host another game jam before release or after release of Luduvo so that we got plently of games for people to enjoy on Launch.

It is a alpha jam after all, you work with limitations to test your creativity or dont take part at all, it is as simple as that.
