Windows 10 — Luduvo.exe crashes silently with ucrtbase.dll / 0xc0000409

I’m having a problem with the Luduvo Windows client on Windows 10.

I understand that there was already a known issue with the Windows client, and that a new version was released to fix it. However, I am still experiencing the problem even after downloading the latest version again.

The main problem

The Luduvo website does not detect the client as installed.

When I try to access/play through the website, it tells me that I don’t have the Luduvo client installed and asks me to download it again.

I have already downloaded and extracted the latest Windows 64-bit client multiple times, but the website still does not recognize it.

Because the website does not detect the client, I tried launching Luduvo.exe manually to see if the client itself was working. This is when I discovered that the executable crashes immediately.

What happens when I launch Luduvo.exe

The official ZIP contains only:

Luduvo.exe

When I double-click it:

  • Nothing appears on screen.

  • The mouse shows the loading cursor for a moment.

  • Then nothing happens.

  • No error popup is displayed.

  • The Luduvo process does not remain open in Task Manager.

I also tried launching it directly through CMD:

cd /d "C:\Users\MÔNICA\Saved Games\Luduvo"
Luduvo.exe

The executable immediately returns to the command prompt without displaying anything.

I also tried the --launch and --self-updated arguments, but there was still no visible response.

Windows Event Viewer

Windows records an Application Error (Event ID 1000):

Faulting application name: Luduvo.exe
Faulting application version: 0.0.0.0
Faulting module name: ucrtbase.dll
Faulting module version: 10.0.19041.3636
Exception code: 0xc0000409
Fault offset: 0x000000000007286e

Faulting application path:
C:\Users\MÔNICA\Saved Games\Luduvo\Luduvo.exe

Faulting module path:
C:\Windows\System32\ucrtbase.dll

My system

  • Windows 10 64-bit

  • Windows version: 10.0.19045.6466

I also tried repairing Windows system files:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This completed successfully.

Then:

sfc /scannow

Windows reported that it found corrupted system files and successfully repaired them.

I restarted the computer afterward, but the problem remains exactly the same.

I also downloaded the latest Luduvo client again after the reported fix, but the website still does not detect the client and Luduvo.exe still crashes immediately.

Could you please check this?

It seems that my case may be slightly different from the previously reported Windows client issue.

Other users appear to get an error popup when the client fails, while in my case there is no popup at all. The executable crashes silently in ucrtbase.dll with exception 0xc0000409.

At the same time, the Luduvo website continues to tell me that I don’t have the client installed, even though I have downloaded and extracted the latest client.

Could this be a problem with the current Windows client, the client detection/installation process, or specifically with Windows 10?

I can provide the Event Viewer details or any additional logs that may help diagnose the issue.

Thank you!

Hi!

The problem for now, come from ‘Ô’ in your device username. Why?

Luduvo only supports an older style of API(Application Programming Interface). You sending in your current regional code page, which is 1 byte per character only, but Luduvo is miscounting it for spacing(store) too short. Which it needs 2 bytes then for more space. I know, it’s hard to understand…

What you can do for now?

Go to Control Panel → Region → Administrative tab → ‘Change system locale’ – then click: ‘Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support’

-after restart- It’s no risk, you can uncheck the box if is not working. Reboot needed.

Now launch again Luduvo.exe. Tell me what happened next, or if something changed in crash process.
